It's official! Both— Dunn Edwards and Sherwin Williams— have announced their 2023 Color of the Year!
Using these paint colors, let's design a cozy living room.
Let's start with the shell of the room.
The ceiling is light gray while the walls are Sherwin Williams' Redent Point.
Behind the sofa, is an accent wall with wall paneling ending just above the sofa; the top of the molding is finished off with a shelf deep enough to hold framed art prints and potted plants.
The accent wall, molding, and shelf are in Dunn-Edwards' Terra Rose.
Staying true to the calming colors of the space, the floors are medium-brown tone wood flooring.
Seating plays a huge role in creating a cozy space to lay back and lounge in.
For this living room, add a sectional sofa with an oversized chaise large enough to cuddle up with your loved one. The Grand Down II Sectional from Living Spaces is a nice option with its soft, fluffy cushions.
If there's enough room, add large lounge chairs big enough for someone to curl up in. West Elm's Viv Grand Swivel Chair in Velvet Mauve fabric is the perfect option for this cozy living room as its circular shape and fabric has a soft feel to it.
The sofa and lounge chairs can be placed around this Magnolia Home Bowen Coffee Table by Joanna Gaines. The finish is in a light, calming wood tone and the round-turned legs give it a delicate touch.
Combining different cabinets to create a one-of-a-kind entertainment center.
One way of creating a custom look without hiring a cabinet maker is by combining different furniture pieces to create one large unit.
For entertainment cabinets, I like to create a symmetrical design with the TV centered.
Sticking with soft curves to create a cozy living room, a pair of Payson Tall Cabinets by West Elm is a great addition to this cozy living room as it has an arched top. Between the two is the Joe 54" Console Table from West Elm in an earthy green finish.
If you're not a fan of the green, you can opt for the Virginia 72" Carved Wood Buffet in charcoal brown by Pottery Barn as the dark finish compliments the gunmetal finish of the tall cabinets.
Completing the room with the final touches.
Continue layering plants and accessories that include earth tones, like greens and browns, which can make any room feel calm and cozy.
The Eucalyptus Bunch area rug by Alisa Galitsyna not only includes organic circle shapes reminiscent of a Eucalyptus branch, but the color is a light, calming green.
Adding plants to an indoor space has proven to create a sense of relaxation and relief— perfect for the comfortable vibes of this living room. You can add ivy in small size planters and allow the vines to hang down from the shelf. Also add a tall tree in a rattan basket to create some height next to the sofa.
Don't know how to care for a plant? Opt for faux plants instead, like this Faux Ivy Plant in Fiberstone Pot by Birch Lane and Faux Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree in Rattan Basket.
Other accessories to add:
Herringbone Cream on Black Throw Blanket by Simple Luxe by Nature Magick
Lastly, let's add some lighting to the room.
The Payton Metal Floor Lamp from Pottery Barn in black picks up the dark tones of the tall cabinets, while its large drum shade in a natural color adds a soft touch.
To compliment Dunn-Edwards 2023 Color of the Year, Terra Rose, hang the Velvet Suspension 100/150 ceiling light from Axolight in red-and-white above the sitting area. Not only does this add a pop of color, but the its large drum shade also mimics the floor lamp.
